Rolf Gustafsson, who turns 65 this year, has been at FAS Converting service department for 35 years. During his time he has been what we call “Mr Service”
– what Rolf does not know about our machines is probably not worth knowing at all.
Morten Severinsen has been with FAS Converting for 25 years, starting as a machine builder and working his way to service technician. Morten is known for his fast, accurate service and good relationship with customers.
Please take a minute to read more about them in the short interview below.
What is the primary reason for you staying at FAS Converting for so long?
There are several reasons. When I started at FAS Converting, I already knew many working there that had the same interests as I had; driving motorcycle and model air plane flying. The other reasons are my genuine interests for mechanics and challenges.
Mechanics and challenges abound when you work at FAS Converting. Starting up machines and training operators and maintenance staff always feels like a new challenge. Imagine you standing in front of a customer with great expectations on your expertise, feeling the great responsibility on your shoulder – it is a real adrenaline rush every time you go for a start-up or a service-trip and help the customers solve their problems and/or making their production even more effective.
You have become a bit of an “inventory” after 35 years, and you have traveled a lot and you have a fantastic knowledge of FAS Converting and its customers. How do you perceive your job now in comparison with 20 years ago?
I have definitely become like an inventory, my employment number 5022 is my article number. 35 years in the same workplace is not completely common. Maybe it is a bit lazy because changing jobs is probably hard work. :-) Yes, I have traveled a lot, I have been in close to 50 countries or at least been at their airports, hotels and factories. The best place I’ve been to is without a doubt Tahiti. You know the postcards with clear blue water, bast huts and palm trees leaning over the water, that is Tahiti …….
And yes, I have had the opportunity to get to know many of FAS Converting’s customers. Visiting customers gives you a completely different connection and relationship.
When you have met in person it makes the communication much easier.

Also, a big difference between modern machines and the machines we sold 15-20 years ago is the ability to connect and solve automation issues and do updates remotely. Mechanically, a lot of things have been refined over the years, but the basic principle of welding without voltage remains.
What do you do when you are not working? Do you have a hobby?
I have my family; my partner since 43 years back, two sons and a granddaughter, a girl of 5 years. We live in a house with a big garden that needs to be taken care of, and I have a workshop where I spend many hours. I still have my interest in motorcycling, and in June we will drive to Normandy in France.
I have flown radio-controlled model aircraft since the early eighties. However, I have put the model aircraft on the shelf for a few years and switched to more ground-based radio-controlled trucks and construction machinery.

What will your days look like when you eventually retire?
I have heard that retirees say that time is not enough. I think you slow down the pace, read the newspaper a little more carefully and enjoy your coffee a little longer.
There will always be something to do at home. At the moment I am building a pizza oven for the outdoor kitchen. I have also started cycling, it is important to keep going. Hopefully it will be a few miles on the bike a few times a week (and no, no electric bike here!)
And I’m probably going to some international gatherings with my radio-controlled models, have fun and meet like-minded people. It might be a pilsner too 😊
What is the primary reason for you staying at FAS Converting for so long?
My job feels inspiring, and I feel that I continue to develop.
You as well have become a bit of an “inventory” after 25 years. You also have a fantastic knowledge of FAS Converting and its customers. How do you perceive your job now in comparison with 15 years ago?
I do not want to say that I need to keep “too many irons in the fire”. Both me and my job have changed during these 15 years. My role as a service technician is broader today.
Your interest in wrestling is a large part of your life. How did you start wrestling?
Are you still involved in the sport today?
Wrestling is very close to my heart. I started wrestling probably because my father did it. And as a little boy it was a perfect activity to get rid of your energy. The sport has made me incredibly happy. Wrestling has given me so much over the years. Both on and off the mat.
Regarding my commitment to wrestling today, I watch competitions as often as I can. Both in Sweden and abroad. Web broadcasts by big championships makes it easier to follow the competitions. And I like that.

Morten in action.
And finally, what do you do when you have a long time off?
I live in a house, so there is always something to do. My two children take part of my time and I always find fishing relaxing. And occasional trips are always fun :-)

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, Aldijana Mehanovic. I was until recently the CFO at FAS Converting Machinery and have taken over the role of CEO as of February 1st.
Our former CEO, Stefan Berg is retiring, and we wish him all the best.
The last few years have been turbulent for everyone. We have all been forced to rethink the way we work and do business. For FAS Converting it has been an opportunity to explore new ways of communicating with our customers, as well as giving us an opportunity to be more flexible to our customers’ needs and explore new business opportunities. We are proud to receive feedback from our customers that they are experiencing a more open minded and receptive approach from us.
We at FAS Converting are determined to engage and set ambitious goals to increase our positive impact on the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) of Agenda 2030. We are not afraid to take a lead role in our industry in integrating the SDGs into our core business strategy, enabling long-term growth. Our engagement within sustainability will intensify even more in the upcoming year and I hope that you will soon notice our work and ambitious goals in our business offerings.
Technical development is a constant ongoing process within FAS Converting and we look forward to showing you some of our progress at the upcoming K-show in Dusseldorf. If you are curious and can’t wait until October 2022, please do not hesitate to contact us for more information. We appreciate your feedback and welcome new ideas from you.
Today, we see ourselves not only as a stronger company, but also as a more experienced one with a lot of worthy insights gained since the outbreak of the pandemic. The biggest down side has been our inability to meet with you, our customers. With the upcoming lifting of restrictions in sight, we are hoping to be able to visit you soon, both at your sites and at upcoming Tradeshows.
Please follow us at Linkedin and Youtube for more frequent updates and news.
With hope of good health and successful business.

Since its introduction in 2005, the Euroline has been a top seller and one of the main components behind FAS’s continued geographical growth. The Euroline started as an entry-level machine.
It has since grown to be one of the most popular machine in our product portfolio due to its combination of price, performance and simplicity. The Euroline now comes with internet connectivity and the possibility to add our full range of options which had only been offered to the standard B-series and SP-winders in the past. This makes the Euroline even more flexible and future proof investment.
Euroline continues to reach new destinations and widens our customer base with customers ranging from small, family owned business up to large multinational organisations. Many of our Euroline customers are specializing in recycled trash bags in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Eastern & Western Europe, both in-line with extruder or out of line from a master roll.
Today we offer following options;
Single/double sealing | Photocell | Twist-tie | PP-insert | 2x adjustable c-folding | Coreless and Core winder | Tape unit
And more to come …
Other than the core business of garbage bags on roll, FAS Converting has successfully supplied machinery for an expanding range of industries.
The simplicity and ease of operation of the FAS stand-alone bag machines and winders in combination with the ability to run them with almost any other converting equipment, has not only met, but also exceeded the expectations of flexibility and reliability that the customers are looking for. Winding of shrink film, food packaging, custom bags and protective equipment are some of the recent successful installations.
The Industrial winder is a fully automatic winder for sheets, bags & drop cloth on roll to be produced either in-line or off-line. Automatic loading of cores during roll changes and multiple core diameters from 38mm (1.5″) to 76mm (3″). Available in 3 different speed ranges, with or without automatic perforation and optional coreless winding. On the link below you can see the IW1100 running bag production together with our B1100 sealing and perforation unit.
The SP500/800 is the current version of the winder that we have been improving for over 30 years. Fully automatic coreless winder with an option to run cores with diameters available from 1” to 1,75” and it is available in two widths, 500mm (19,6”) or 800mm (31.5”). Can be equipped with Hot-melt, twist-tie, labelling unit and c-folder.

Since the start of 2006, we at Plamika have continuously developed our business with focus on quality products, punctuality and becoming a reliable partner for customers and other bag manufacturers who need to increase their capacity. Recently we have invested in 4 new production lines from FAS Converting to meet the increasing demand for high quality garbage bags made out of recycled material (PCR), Marius Maslauskas owner of Plamika.
FAS Converting has helped us throughout the whole process, ensuring that we invest in the right solution based on our situation today and our future potential. Now after running our new FAS Converting lines for the first year, we are already seeing results as we have a wider and more competitive product portfolio towards our main markets. We can now offer a bigger product range with T-shirt and S-cut/Wave-top bags, which has helped us to gain a larger market share in Western Europe including Scandinavia. Today we supply bags not only to our customers, but also to other producers in the industry who need to increase their capacity temporarily and where quality is important.
The two companies environmental policies also share a common view on today’s critical situation and what needs to be done. Therefore, we have collaborated with FAS Converting at international exhibitions and sponsored them with our own recycled material so that we together can increase the awareness about efficient solutions to produce products with 100% recycled content.

First time I met Marius (owner) was at the K-show 2016 when I was new at FAS Converting. It has been a true pleasure to work with Plamika throughout the years and I have always appreciated their open and honest feedback during our discussions. They have treated us as a partner instead of a supplier, with open books about budgets, goals and expectations, which has given us the opportunity to actually do our job in the best possible way and guide them in the right direction. We enjoy our work and no customer is too small or too big for us. We are here to help and that is how we want to grow our business, Joakim says.
It’s been a tough and challenging year, but also a positive one for FAS Converting. We were able to reach a new record in turnover and we are thankful for the continued trust that we have received from our existing customers. We have also had the pleasure of welcoming new customers from markets like Africa, Eastern Europe, Baltics and North America, and are truly looking forward to getting out and meeting with all of them as soon as travel restrictions are eased.
As this year has been different and unpredictable in many ways, we at FAS Converting would also like to thank our customers for all the patience and understanding during the challenges we sometimes experienced while managing this year’s growth during the ongoing pandemic. The positive thing is that we have developed in many areas and also been forced to find new methods to communicate and support our customers from distance. This is something we will continue to develop and which we believe will improve the customer experience when working with FAS Converting in the future.

Health authorities all over the world have been in need of single use aprons for their hard working healthcare personnel. At FAS Converting we have adapted to the new demands directly connected to the ongoing global pandemic.
We are glad that we have had the opportunity to increase the supply of aprons by supplying our customers with express deliveries of new equipment.
It feels gratifying to be able to make this contribution in these demanding times.
We continue to have apron lines in our production schedule, and we expect a continued growth and demand of aprons on roll. We also believe the usage of personal protective equipment such as aprons will increase in other industries and segments in the future.
Today we offer two different apron lines with main differences in budget and output. Both lines contains a modular cutter that is also suitable for t-shirt and s-cut production.
Spare Parts and Service
As the holiday season is almost upon us, we would like to remind all of our customers that the office will be operating with limited support during the holidays. For service and spare parts, we kindly ask you to check your inventories and send any requests for parts to us as soon as possible.
We wish you all a safe and happy festive season.
With long history in T-shirt and S-cut bag making, the rotary cutter CT500 is now also available with apron capability. The demand for local production of aprons continues to increase and we are glad to introduce this new update on our CT500 to help our customers to meet this demand.
(See Video at Youtube)
The line consists of a FAS Unwind, SF2V-folder, CT500 cutter and a standard SP500 winder. It can be used both in-line with an extruder or run up to 120m/min from our unwind. This line can also easily be upgraded with a bag machine (perforation & sealing) for production of T-shirt & S-cut trash bags.

With a pandemic spreading and more and more borders closing all over the world, FAS Converting faces new exciting challenges in order to support our customers in the best possible way. FAS Converting has now had several successful startups done remotely, the last one done was for our customer in South Africa.
Our Service Engineers, Morten Severinsen and Rolf Gustavsson are doing the startups remotely using communication programs, phones and remote connections to the machines PLC and HMI.
As our customers are satisfied and happy with the results, we at FAS Converting are very happy as well.
It is important to be able to adapt to different situations, and though nothing compares to being together with our customers physically, we now have a complementary routine that will result in a more efficient technical support going forward.
Last but not least we are extremely happy and proud to be able to say that our business continues to grow at a quicker pace than ever before. Our orderbook is at a high level and we would like to say THANK YOU for your confidence!

“It is challenging but has worked out well with good results”, said Morten Severinsen after the first startup.
Rolf Gustavsson informs us further of the new preparatory material developed to facilitate the remote startup process in terms of both technical and assembly instructions.
Since 2016 GAIA BioMaterials supplying aprons to Swedish Health Authority.
In 2016 FAS installed a line for production of disposable protection aprons at GAIA in Helsingborg.
GAIA supplies healthcare sector in Sweden and Norway with aprons made of their Biodolmer® material which is also suitable for a wide variety of applications. Read more about Gaia here
The line consists of a FAS FC500A cutter with a standard SP500 winder and can be used directly in-line with an extruder up to 60m/min. The FC500A is specifically designed for making Aprons, and is built on a robust and well proven technology that enables 24/7 production.
The demand for sustainable and local production of disposable protection aprons is increasing and we are ready to meet that demand.
If you have any question please reach out to Joakim Sjödin via mail or mobile +46 720 908 930
Can it be used for aprons with sleeves?
– No, not on this equipment.
Can we rebuild our existing FC500 to a FC500A?
– Realistically not, it is more cost efficient to buy a new one
When can I get one?
– We build to order and delivery time varies, please contact us.
Can I run off-line?
– Yes, together with an unwinder it is possible.
What type of material?
– Virgin, recycled or biomaterial is fine. It has to be single layer that is v-folded or a tube that is opened on side before entering the cutter.
Do we need a sealing unit?
– No, the FC500A will do the cut-out and perforation. Nothing else is needed.

FAS Converting participated in the K2019 in Düsseldorf, Germany with a greater booth then the years before and a live demonstration of two machine lines.
The K show brings together more than 225,000 visitors from 165 countries to tour 3,300 exhibitors from 67 countries.
K 2019 comes at an exciting time for the plastics industry, which has come under heavy criticism as it does have a huge waste problem.
“Never before has the industry put the sustainability and recycling at such a high a priority and also to train the public how to use the plastics more responsibly,” in President and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, said at the opening news conference on Oct. 15.
One clearly gets the feeling that the industry has taken an important step to find solutions to this and is embarking on the journey to a circular economy. It is a positive sign that the plastics industry isn’t fighting this trend. Companies are exploring ways to be part of this transition.
FAS Converting is also part of this. “We are growing our company across all departments to become more responsive to your needs and challenges. We are investing in talented people, adopting standardized procedures in our production. We strive to build our machines to become more efficient, to use less energy per produced product with less waste and a smaller physical as well as Carbon footprint”,
says Stefan Berg, CEO at FAS Converting.
– Many new contacts were taken at K2019 and we are now working with many requests. – Three concept lines were sold and there is more to come, says Joakim Sjödin, Sales Manager at FAS Converting.
As a long-term “K”-exhibitor of bag on roll machinery, we noticed a major change in the interest this time compared to previous shows. New companies from all over the world showed big interest and were curios in our solutions for production of garbage bags on roll. Everything from small family owned companies up to large corporations with millions in turnover. Some of them are recyclers looking to increase their profits by entering the bag making business with their material. Current producers of single use carrier bags see their market decreasing as these bags are now becoming prohibited, they are now in a transition phase of changing their production into trash bags made of recycled material.
As a manufacturer with long experience and state-of-the-art technology for recycled material, we are glad to support the market and contribute with know-how and solutions that will help the market to step in to the circular economy. And of course it’s not a secret that this is a big business opportunity for us as company since this has always been our main focus and core strength, Joakim continuous.

Many of you have seen our very popular Euroline demonstrated at shows and exhibitions in various markets. At the K2019 fair, we introduced our new and improved Euroline 2.0.
We showed two complete bag making lines, both lines were “live” and produced trash bags on roll made out of 100% recycled material. Euroline with a maximum speed of 100 m/min, and the premium line with the ability to run up to 180 m/min.
The numbers of our visitors increased since last show. K2019 is truly global and we hosted visitors from all over the world and many were new to us.
– We closed three deals at the K2019, and that’s an all-time high for FAS Converting, Joakim Sjödin, Sales Manager at FAS converting says.
Please see video clip above of our new and improved Euroline 2.0 from the K2019. If you have questions, please contact, Joakim at joakim.sjodin@fasconverting.com
We will be conducting business as FAS Converting Machinery. The name, logo and message will be consistent across all markets we serve. The name Peco Inc. will no longer be used.
The history
For 40 years, FAS Converting Machinery has enjoyed a rich history of growth, commercial success and technical achievement.
As one of the early pioneers of in line bag making, FAS invented and refined bag machines, winders and other Film Converting equipment targeted towards the production of trash bags on roll applications.
As line speeds increased, raw materials changed, and bag features were added, FAS kept pace with the development of new bag machines, draw tape equipment, coreless winders, industrial winders, rotary cutters and folders. The company grew and prospered outgrowing its facilities and moving several times.
During the 1980’s, Peco Inc was founded in New Jersey USA and become a strategic partner with FAS, serving the North American market. Peco built equipment in the USA under license to FAS.
In 1999 FAS acquired Peco and made it a wholly owned subsidiary. Since that time the two companies have become closely integrated. Production was consolidated in Sweden while parts, technical service and sales support remained in the USA under the Peco Inc name.
Over the years our company and equipment have been identified by a range of names and images including FAS, Peco, Peco FAS, FAS Peco, at times confusing our customers and suppliers.
The future
FAS stands poised for the future. Our challenge is straightforward. We want to be your number one choice for Film Converting solutions. We are growing our company across all departments to become more responsive to your needs and challenges. Strategically we are looking to partner with companies in the recycling business in order to offer highly productive film converting systems, as we take an active role in providing long term sustainable solutions contributing to a cleaner healthier environment.
We are investing in talented people, adopting standardized procedures in our production and increasing our interactions with you our customers to be able to better serve you going forward.
To be consistent with that commitment, we are rebranding our company. We will conduct business globally as FAS Converting Machinery. The quality of our products and service that you have come to expect will not change. Whether you are used to referring to us as Peco, FAS or something else, we will be known as FAS Converting Machinery in all markets now.
Do you have any questions about our newsletter, please feel free to please contact Joakim Sjödin, Sales Manager, by phone on +46 72 090 89 30 or email here.
